School Council
The School Council at Stokes Wood Primary School consists of a team of extremely active, dedicated and helpful pupils.
Children vote for children in their class from a range of nominees. One pupil from each class from Year 2 to Year 6 are elected and committed to making positive changes within the school.
This year the school council are aiming to find ways to improve sustainability and reading across the school.
We meet as a whole school committee half-termly to feedback and discuss outcomes. Through the year we feedback to the whole school via assemblies and classroom discussions.
Our Vision
By working with the whole school community, the School Council will:
- Improve our school by collaborating as a team to ensure we can be the best school possible.
- Discussing ideas and making decisions together
- Make pupils feel comfortable, happy and safe at school so they can access their learning to their full potential.
- Listen to others suggestions of how we can make the school a better place.
- Feedback decisions and actions to the whole school.
ECO Roadshow
The Year 3/4 school council members and some children from gardening club attended the Eco Roadshow on Thursday. The children discussed how we could make our school grounds better for wildlife and the importance of clean air and how cycling/walking to school helps with this. We also enjoyed a workshop from a member of staff at Twycross Zoo and investigating what happens if we lose a species from an ecosystem. The goats at Millgate kept us entertained at break time - we would like goats at Stokes Wood!
Visit from James Veness from Energy Sparks
The school council worked with James to investigate ways in which the school could reduce the energy it uses (reducing its carbon footprint). They also investigated where heat was produced in the school and where it might be lost. He visited Year 3 and presented a fantastic assembly about the Antarctic, its animal life, climate, his trip and the historical stories about it.
